What is a Handfasting?
A Handfasting is a wonderful celebration for people who feel a traditional wedding is not for them. The hands are tied together to symbolise the binding of two lives. The ceremony itself is based on ancient pagan beliefs and there are no hard and fast rules. This means you can customise everything to suit you – the speeches, music, vows etc. In England Handfasting is not legally binding, but it is recognised by the pagan community as spiritually binding and therefore transcends the law of the land. Some couples choose to have two ceremonies – traditional religious or register office – and a Handfasting too.
